There’s no question that Maui, Hawaii, is one of the most gorgeous destinations on the planet for a vacation — the jaw-dropping beauty of the sparkling beaches and tropical landscape is truly a sight to behold.

However, another reason Maui is such a fantastic place to visit is the selection of luxury resorts in Maui, Hawaii, to choose from. There are several four-star and five-star resorts in Maui that provide the perfect place to stay for a romantic getaway, family vacation, or special occasion, like an anniversary or honeymoon.

So, what are the best luxury resorts in Maui, and where can you find them? This post lists all the best luxury hotels in Maui (plus their top amenities and features) so you can choose the best beachfront resort in Maui to make your upcoming Hawaiian vacation extra special!

Note: After the devastating wildfires on Maui in August 2023, you may be wondering if it is okay (and a good time!) to visit Maui. Aside from Lahaina, Maui is open, and there is plenty to do, see, and experience around the island. Remember to support small, local businesses while vacationing on the island and greet locals with kindness.

Wailea

Wailea is a luxurious resort community in southwest Maui — just south of Kihei — known for its beautiful beaches, lush golf courses, and upscale resorts.

Compared to other locations in Maui, Wailea has the largest concentration of well-known luxury resorts, making it a great place to find a selection of luxury hotels in Maui to choose from for your upcoming vacation.

1. Fairmont Kea Lani

Fairmont Kea Lani is a stunning five-star luxury resort in Maui, located right on Polo Beach in Wailea. The Fairmont Kea Lani is located next to several popular attractions in Wailea — such as Wailea Golf Club, Makena State Park, and the Shops and Wailea — and there are five beaches within a mile of the resort, including the popular Wailea Beach.

What makes Fairmont Kea Lani one of the best luxury resorts in Maui is the unique cabana-style suites, each equipped with a spacious living room, balcony with a resort, mountain, or ocean view, and stunning furniture and decor.

Fairmont Kea Lani offers several amenities on-site, including three restaurants (Nick’s Fishmarket Maui, Kō, and Kea Lani Restaurant), three swimming pools, and a luxurious spa. This luxury hotel in Maui would be a great option for couples looking for a romantic getaway or families with older kids looking for the perfect vacation spot — Fairmont Kea Lani offers family suites specifically designed for families traveling with kids!

3. Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Remember the movie Just Go with It, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston? That movie was filmed here, at the Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Aside from the Hollywood glamor, Grand Wailea is one of the best luxury resorts in Maui and a fabulous place to stay on the island. This sprawling resort on Wailea Beach has been recently revitalized and renovated with new restaurants, refreshed rooms, and a luxurious spa to bring fresh, modern touches to this classic Maui resort.

Recent renovations include the new dining experiences at Grand Wailea (Olivine, Botero Lounge, Humuhumunukunukuāpua, Ikena, and Loulu), the custom-designed Napua Rooms and Suites, and Mōhalu Healing Garden & Beauty Lab — a luxurious spa offering treatments and therapies in a lush, tropical garden.

If you’re looking for a luxurious resort that would be the perfect backdrop for a wedding, look no further than the Grand Wailea. This resort offers several wedding packages and venues, including the romantic chapel garden at the heart of the resort — pictured below!

4. Wailea Beach Resort – Marriott

Wailea Beach Resort is one of the best luxury resorts in Maui for all types of trips, from family vacations to romantic getaways. Nestled between Wailea Beach and Ulua Beach — two of the best beaches in Maui — there is something everyone will love here, from kids to grandparents!

If you’re searching for a relaxing retreat, you will love the “Sundeck Garden Oasis Guest Rooms,” complete with a private garden lanai with an outdoor bathtub, firepit lounge, and other luxurious amenities. You will also love Olakino, an adults-only wellness oasis that includes a swimming pool, spa treatments, culinary offerings, and personalized service.

Wailea Beach Resort is home to several on-property dining experiences, including Makani Bar, Humble Market Kitchin, KAPA Bar & Grill, Whale’s Tale, and more. The Mandara Spa is a fabulous place to indulge in a massage, facial, or body wrap. They offer a dozen treatment rooms and four rooms for couples — perfect for a honeymoon or anniversary trip!

If you’re traveling with kids, Wailea Beach Resort offers an interactive luau show (Te Au Moana) and has four swimming pools — Maluhia Pool for adults, Ohi Pools with ocean-facing infinity edges, and NALU Adventure Pool, complete with splash zones, a pool bar and food trucks, and four waterslides, including the longest resort waterslide in Maui. This makes this hotel one of the best resorts in Maui for families!

5. Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort – A Concept by Hyatt

Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort is one of the best resorts in Maui for couples. This chic, modern, and romantic resort offers fabulous amenities, including beachfront access to Mokapu Beach, farm-to-table dining, and a memorable luau experience.

One of the most memorable features of the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort is the series of three infinity pools that overlook the ocean. The resort also has a lagoon pool and a tranquility pool for adult guests. You can also unwind at the Āwili Spa and Salon with spa services like massages, facials, and body treatments and get freshened up for a night on the town with salon services like nails, waxing, and hairstyling.

If you’re looking to stay in style, forgo a room or suite and opt for one of the two-, three-, and four-bedroom luxury villas, featuring private “lanais” with gorgeous ocean views, in addition to other perks, like a daily resort credit and concierge service. Consider using your resort credit at one of the many restaurants at Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, including Ka’ana Kitchen, Morimoto Maui, and Lehua Lounge.

Hana

Although most of the best luxury resorts in Maui are located on the island’s west coast, which is more developed than the east coast due to the famous Road to Hana, there is one resort that is worth looking into if you’d like to stay in the town of Hana!

6. Hana-Maui Hyatt Resort

Hana-Maui Hyatt Resort is located at the end of the Road to Hana, a famous tourist attraction and one of the best things to do in Maui. Although this resort is isolated from the other things to do in Maui, it’s a great place to stay for one or two nights if you want to have ample time to explore the stops on the Road to Hana, as opposed to making the whole trip in one day.

That said, the Hana-Maui Hyatt Resort is gorgeous. This boutique luxury resort offers beautiful rooms and villas — including an oceanfront bungalow with a hot tub on the patio — with other amenities and decor that embody the “aloha” spirit.

At the resort, enjoy two fabulous dining experiences (The Restaurant at Hana Maui Resort and Hana Ranch Restaurant), as well as a pool bar at the serene swimming pool that overlooks the untouched east coast of Maui. Although this luxury resort in Maui offers tons of unique experiences, like lei making, hula, leaf printing, and yoga, the best experiences and attractions can be found along the Road to Hana, including Waianapanapa State Park, where you’ll find the famous black sand beach (pictured below) — it’s less than two miles away from the resort!

Ka’anapali

Ka’anapali is a planned resort community in Maui on the famous Ka’anapali Beach — so it’s safe to assume you’ll find lots of the best luxury resorts in Maui in this spot!

Ka’anapali is located on the northwestern side of Maui, and its proximity to many major attractions makes it a popular place to stay for families or multigenerational groups traveling with kids. Or anyone who wants to explore all the best things to do on Maui!

7. The Westin Maui Resort & Spa

The Westin Maui Resort & Spa is one of the best luxury hotels in Maui and a fabulous place to stay for proximity to beach activities, shopping, dining, and more. The Westin Maui Resort & Spa is the closest hotel to Whaler’s Village — the primary shopping mall and dining destination in Ka’anapali, pictured below — so there is plenty to do within walking distance from the hotel.

In addition to the area, the hotel itself has plenty to offer! The Westin Maui Resort & Spa has a new luxury experience called Hokupa‘a — a series of stunning guest rooms that provide views of Ka’anapali Beach and comes with special perks such as daily breakfast, a private bar, infinity-edge swimming pools, and more.

There are several places to dine on the property, including Hale Moʻolelo and Hale ʻĀ, and guests can also enjoy a delicious feast at the Wailele Luau, hosted at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa. The property is also just a short distance away from the golf courses in Ka’anapali (and provides shuttle services to them!), making it an ideal place to stay for golf enthusiasts.

8. Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa in Ka’anapali is hands-down one of the best luxury resorts in Maui for families — especially those with younger kids. There are tons of things to do at this resort, including a half-acre pool with a decked-out splash pad for kids, an on-site luau, a golf course nearby, and tons of fun cultural activities, like lei making, stargazing, hula classes, and even penguin presentations!

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa has several dining options on the property, including Japengo, ‘Ūmalu, Swan Court, and Son’z Steakhouse. The beautiful rooms and suites are all newly renovated, and there is an option for connecting rooms to accommodate larger groups.

One perk to staying at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa is that guests can also enjoy the amenities at the Hyatt Residence Club Maui, including the zero-entry swimming pool, adults-only infinity pool, and the Pau Huaka’i Tiki Bar.

Personally, we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa during our trip to Maui, and we had a room on the first floor with a patio that led straight out to the pool at the Hyatt Residence Club. We loved spending time at this pool (and staying at this resort in general) and would 100% recommend it to anyone for a family vacation or special trip.

9. The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas

Need some extra amenities for your stay in Maui? If so, The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas is the perfect luxury hotel in Maui for your vacation.

This hotel offers studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom villas with all the amenities you would find at home, like a kitchenette, washer and dryer, bathtub, balcony, and more. If you want to cook some meals while you’re in Maui or would love to cut down on the amount you need to pack by doing a load of laundry or two while on vacation — you’ll love these villas!

However, unlike a vacation rental, The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas offers all the amenities you would find at a hotel, like a swimming pool, restaurants, an ocean recreation center for gear rentals, tennis courts, a luxurious spa, and more. Splurge on extra space during your vacation and stay at this luxury resort in Maui!

  • Location: Ka’anapali
  • Unique Amenities: Spacious Villas & Outdoor Recreation Options
  • Best For: Homebodies

10. Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa

Want to snorkel while you’re on Maui? Stay at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa — you will be just footsteps away from one of the best snorkeling spots in Maui — Black Rock Beach! Side note: this was my favorite snorkeling spot on Maui. We saw so many different types of fish here, including a barracuda, along with several sea turtles and an eel. We even could see and hear dolphins swimming a little off the coast from where we were snorkeling. It was magical!

Okay, back to the resort. Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa offers gorgeous rooms on the famous black rock that overlooks the ocean called Moana Oceanfront Guest Rooms. These rooms are stunning places to watch the sunset and are perfect for a romantic getaway. The resort also offers spacious suites, which are ideal for families!

There are several dining options at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, including Cliff Dive Grill, Coral Reef Breakfast, Maui Tai Bar, Black Rock Shave Ice, and more. This luxury Maui resort also has a massive lagoon-style pool with waterfalls, a whirlpool spa, a small waterslide, and a children’s shallow pool for splashing and swimming. You can also enjoy fun activities on Black Rock Beach, like snorkeling, paddleboarding, outrigger canoeing, and more!

Kapalua

If you’re looking for somewhere quieter to stay on the western side of Maui, you’ll likely love the small resort community of Kapalua.

Unlike Wailea and Ka’anapali, Kapalua is a much smaller community that is known for luxury resorts, upscale restaurants, golf courses, and stunning scenery — basically, all the ingredients for a luxury vacation! However, it is a bit further away from the most well-known things to do in Maui, so keep this in mind when booking one of the hotels below. It’s a great spot for a relaxing vacation and to “get away” from the crowds!

11. Montage Kapalua Bay

Montage Kapalua Bay is a beautiful resort that offers some of the most spacious rooms on the island — you can choose from one-, two-, three-, or four-bedroom residences. Some amenities you can find in the rooms, if selected, include outdoor whirlpools and infinity pools, private underground parking, full gourmet kitchens, and ocean-view rooms.

In addition to the posh amenities in each room at Montage Kapalua Bay, this resort offers several dining options, including Cane & Canoe and The Hideaway, and a luxurious spa that offers massages, facials, body treatments, and a salon.

Montage Kapalua Bay is near Kapalua Bay Beach, one of the best snorkeling spots in Maui, and Makaluapuna Point, a popular viewpoint and hiking trail. Guests will also love the resort’s proximity to the golf courses in Kapalua, as well as other outdoor recreation opportunities, like snorkeling, paddleboarding, hiking, and more.

  • Location: Kapalua
  • Unique Amenities: Spacious Residences & Private Pools
  • Best For: Quiet Getaways

12. The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

The Ritz-Carlton Maui is, hands down, one of the most luxurious resorts in Maui and one of the best resorts in Maui for couples. Located in the quiet neighborhood of Kapalua, this is the perfect place to stay for a romantic getaway or relaxing retreat on Maui!

This stunning beachfront resort offers guest rooms, suites, and residences that include features like private lanais (patios) overlooking the ocean, kitchenettes with top-of-the-line appliances, beautiful living spaces, and private fire pits.

On the property, you can dine at an array of restaurants, like The Banyan Tree, Ulana Terrace, Burger Shack, and Olu Poolside. You can also enjoy resort amenities like the heated swimming pool, the poolside cabanas, a holistic indoor-outdoor spa, and more at The Ritz-Carlton Maui.
