Top Reasons to Stay at Contigo Ranch

Peaceful Location

Contigo Ranch is located 15 miles north of Fredericksburg’s Main Street and about five miles south of Enchanted Rock State Park in the heart of Texas. The property is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland (we usually saw longhorns grazing on the side of the road during our drive!) — making it a peaceful, quiet, authentic stay in the Texas Hill Country.

Unique Lodging Options

Contigo Ranch offers 16 guest cabins and cottages. The historic cabins are spacious with a “rustic-chic” old-world design, while the modern cottages have a minimalist farmhouse look. Each lodging option is different and offers unique amenities and decor — so explore the options online to determine which is best for you! However, here is a quick overview of each:

The cabins at Contigo Ranch are housed in historic buildings — like the ranch’s original home and log and limestone cabins from the 1800s — to offer a spacious and rustic “home away from home” with amenities like wrap-around porches with rocking chairs, kitchenettes, wood-burning fireplaces, and soaking tubs. The largest cabin can sleep 10 guests, while the smallest cabin can accommodate a couple. Most cabins can comfortably sleep 4–6 guests.

The cottages at Contigo Ranch were built with a modern, minimalist look — perfect for those looking for a chic, contemporary stay in Fredericksburg. Most of the cottages are designed with couples in mind. They are furnished with a king or queen bed, a spacious walk-in shower, a TV, a mini-kitchen, and outdoor bistro seating — though a couple of the cottages are larger and can sleep more guests with additional pull-out sofas. All the cottages and cabins come with free designated parking spaces!

Complimentary Breakfast

Contigo Ranch does not have a restaurant on the property (though Contigo Provisions will be opening later in 2025 — a general store offering artisanal snacks, light fare, refreshing drinks, and merchandise). However, breakfast delivery is included in the price of your stay — we loved waking up to a hot breakfast delivered to our doorstep each morning!

Authentic Ranch Lifestyle

If you want to get “off the beaten path” to experience the true magic of the Texas Hill Country without sacrificing modern conveniences and luxury amenities — Contigo Ranch is the perfect place to stay. The property is far enough from Main Street to feel tucked away in the countryside but close enough to be a short drive from the top things to do in Fredericksburg!

While there is plenty to do in and around Fredericksburg (more on that later!), be sure to spend some time soaking up the beauty of Contigo Ranch and the surrounding area. Watch the sunrise while sipping on a cup of coffee from your front porch, grill and eat dinner outside under the stars, bring a fishing pole for catch-and-release fishing in the lake, drive up to The Bluff for scenic views of the Texas Hill Country, or hike around to look for the longhorns that call the ranch “home.”

Scenic Lookout

Something you have to do during your stay at Contigo Ranch is drive up to The Bluff — a scenic viewpoint that overlooks the stunning expanse of the Texas Hill Country. It is so beautiful and peaceful, and it is a popular spot for wedding ceremonies at Contigo Ranch!

Speaking of… this beautiful property is also a popular wedding venue in Fredericksburg. In addition to ceremonies at The Bluff, you can also book a ceremony and reception at The Barn or The Hall. If you’re interested in getting married at Contigo Ranch, check out their website — I think it would be a stunning location for a rustic, refined, romantic wedding in the heart of Texas!

What to Consider Before Booking a Stay at Contigo Ranch

Private Check In

Contigo Ranch does not have a front desk, so you’ll be given a code to unlock the door of your cabin or cottage (kind of like staying at a vacation rental!).

We had no issues with our code (everything ran super smoothly!), but it is important to note you could go an entire stay at Contigo Ranch without interacting with the staff. Some guests looking for a peaceful getaway “off the grid” might see this as a benefit, while others who prefer a dedicated front desk staff might feel differently. This isn’t a downside to staying at Contigo Ranch at all, but something important to note to ensure the property aligns with your travel style.

Limited Internet Connection

Contigo Ranch is, first and foremost, a 400-acre working farm in the Texas Hill Country. The property is beautiful, scenic, and peaceful… but because of its rural location, the service can be spotty. You can connect to Wi-Fi from each cabin or cottage, but I wouldn’t plan on making many calls or spending much time online during your stay.

However, in my eyes, this isn’t a a drawback to staying at Contigo Ranch at all… after arriving, I think you’ll want to disconnect and be surrounded by the stunning beauty of the property, anyway!

Rural Location

As I just mentioned, Contigo Ranch is in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, so it’s a bit further from some of the popular attractions in Fredericksburg, like the shops and restaurants on Main Street and the wineries in the Texas Hill Country.

However, from our experience, none of the attractions we wanted to visit were more than a 30-minute drive from Contigo Ranch (it’s really not that far from all the sights at all!)… and we thought the peacefulness of the stay was worth the extra time in the car. Plus, the drive is super scenic!

Our Personal Experience at Contigo Ranch in Cabin #3

My husband, daughter, and I stayed at Contigo Ranch for two nights in March 2024, and we loved our experience! We stayed in Cabin #3 — a two-story log cabin with a queen bed on the bottom floor and a full bed and a twin bed upstairs. We loved its rustic charm!

We spent all of our time downstairs in the master bedroom with a walk-in shower and jacuzzi tub, the kitchenette and dining room, and the living room with a TV. If you want to take a peek inside — you can take a tour of the cabin here.

A cozy living room in a log cabin with two chairs, a TV, a stone fireplace, and a colorful striped rug.

Overall, we loved having so much space in (and around!) the cabin to spread out. Our favorite feature was the wrap-around porch with rocking chairs — we enjoyed sitting out in the mornings to sip on our coffee while overlooking the Texas Hill Country. It was so peaceful!

After arriving, we realized the pack ‘n’ play we requested for our daughter had not yet been delivered. We contacted the staff at Contigo Ranch, and they quickly sent someone to drop it off within the first half hour of our arrival. I really appreciated the attentiveness of the staff— even though they are more “hands off” with guests to allow for a peaceful stay, in our experience, the staff was responsive and attentive to our needs.

Who Would Love a Stay at Contigo Ranch?

Contigo Ranch would be a great place to stay for the following types of trips:

  • Family Vacations — Whether you’re traveling with a baby (like us!), older kids, or teenagers, Contigo Ranch offers spacious accommodations for families and plenty of wide open spaces for kids to run around and play outside. Cabin #1 can accommodate 10 guests (perfect for a large family!), while Cabins #3, 4, and 5 can sleep 4 to 6 people. Plus, each cabin is a standalone building, so if you have crying babies or loud kids, you won’t have to worry about disturbing other guests.
  • Couples’ Getaways — The chic, cozy cottages at Contigo Ranch would be the perfect spot for a romantic couples’ trip, like a milestone anniversary or weekend away… they offer the perfect amount of effortless luxury and contemporary charm. What could be more romantic than a peaceful stay in the Texas Hill Country? I can’t think of much!
  • Girls’ Trips — Fredericksburg is an incredible place for a girls’ trip because of the excellent wineries, local boutique shopping, cool dining experiences, and fun things to do, like country dancing! That said, the cabins and cottages at Contigo Ranch would be a fun place to stay for a girls’ trip… book one cabin for the whole group or a couple of cottages for a trendy stay in the Texas Hill Country!

Best Things to Do Near Contigo Ranch

Contigo Ranch is in the ideal location for a trip to the Texas Hill Country — it is tucked away far enough in the countryside to be peaceful and relaxing, but is also close enough to the shopping, dining, and entertainment in Downtown Fredericksburg and the wineries and orchards in the Texas Hill Country.

Here are some of the top things to add to your Frederciskburg itinerary during a weekend at Contigo Ranch. If you need some more ideas of things to do — read through my weekend guide to Fredericksburg!

Downtown Fredericksburg

Main Street in Downtown Fredericksburg is the “hub” for shopping, dining, and entertainment in the Texas Hill Country, and it’s only about a 20-minute drive from Contigo Ranch.

From touring historical attractions and museums like the Pioneer Museum or National Museum of the Pacific War, shopping at cute local boutiques and shops, dining at fantastic local restaurants like Hill & Vine, Chase’s Place Cocktails + Kitchen, and Otto’s German Bistro, and getting small-batch Italian shave ice from Piccolina — you won’t be bored (or hungry!) during a stroll up and down Main Street in Fredericksburg!

Enchanted Rock State Park

One of the most significant perks of staying at Contigo Ranch is being a five miles away from Enchanted Rock State Park — one of the most beautiful (and popular!) state parks in Texas.

Enchanted Rock State Park showcases a pink granite dome (one of the largest in the world!), magical scenery, and sweeping views of the Texas Hill Country. It’s a popular spot for hiking, rock climbing, camping, and stargazing. The views from the park are gorgeous at sunset, and it’s a wonderful place for spotting wildflowers, like bluebonnets, in the spring.

Texas Hill Country Wineries

One of the primary reasons people visit the Texas Hill Country is for the wineries and vineyards along the Texas Wine Trail. There are dozens of wineries to choose from, but my favorite from our trip to Fredericksburg was the Rhinory — a winery focused on rhino conservation (you can even meet a rhino named Blake while you’re there!).

You can do a self-guided tour of the Texas Wine Trail if you only want to visit one or two wineries or join a wine tour for roundtrip transportation from Downtown Fredericksburg. Some of the most popular tours include the Boutique Winery Experience with Fredericksburg Tours, Classic Cowboy Wine Adventure with Cowboy Tours, All-Inclusive Social Wine Tour by Cable Car Wine Tours, or Exclusive Hill Country Wine Tour perfect for a larger group, like a bachelorette party!
